The Siemens PXC22-E.D is a compact Desigo PX automation station designed for HVAC and building services control applications. It provides BACnet/IP communication via an RJ45 Ethernet interface and is suitable for standalone operation or integration within a wider building automation network.

This controller offers 22 onboard input/output points, including 16 universal inputs/outputs and 6 relay outputs, supporting flexible connection of field devices such as sensors, valves, actuators and room operating units. The universal channels can be used with common building control signal types including passive temperature sensors, active 0–10 V signals, volt-free contacts, counter inputs and analogue outputs.

Operating from a 24 V AC supply, the PXC22-E.D is built for control cabinet installation and features plug-in screw terminal blocks for straightforward wiring. It includes status LEDs for relay outputs, device state, communication and battery condition, helping technicians identify operating status during commissioning and maintenance.

With integrated management functions such as alarm handling, scheduling, trending, remote operation and access control, the Siemens PXC22-E.D is well suited to commercial building automation tasks where reliable monitoring and control of HVAC plant and building services is required.

What type of device is this?

It is a Siemens Desigo PX compact automation station used for HVAC and building automation applications. The PXC22-E.D is designed for controlling and monitoring connected field devices such as sensors, actuators, valves and room units.

What communication protocol does it use?

This model is intended for BACnet/IP communication via an RJ45 Ethernet network interface. It is part of the Siemens Desigo PX range and is used within building automation networks.

How many onboard inputs and outputs does it provide?

It provides 22 onboard physical input/output points in total. This consists of 16 universal inputs/outputs and 6 relay outputs.

What supply voltage is required?

The unit requires AC 24 V with a tolerance of ±20%. It operates at 50/60 Hz and has a maximum power consumption of 30 VA, depending on the connected field devices.

What can the universal inputs and outputs be used for?

The universal inputs/outputs can be configured for signals such as passive temperature sensors, active DC 0–10 V sensors, volt-free binary contacts, counter inputs and analogue outputs. Some universal channels can also be used for binary switching at DC 24 V / 20 mA.

What are the relay output ratings?

The relay outputs are single-pole changeover contacts. For AC loads, they are rated up to AC 250 V, with a maximum resistive load of 4 A or inductive load of 2 A. For DC loads, they are rated up to DC 30 V with a maximum resistive load of 3 A.

Can room units be connected?

Yes. The unit has a PPS2 bus connection for Siemens QAX room units. Up to five compatible room units can be connected in parallel, with addressing set on the room units.

What do the front LEDs indicate?

The front LEDs indicate operating state, faults, battery condition, communication activity and service identification. Each relay output also has its own yellow status indicator.

What batteries are used in the device?

The device uses a lithium BR2032 battery, with CR2032 as an optional alternative, for the real-time clock. It also uses an AA battery for retaining trend data and current parameters during a power loss, depending on device series.

What are the operating environmental limits?

The automation station is designed for operation from 0 to 50 °C with 5 to 95% relative humidity, non-condensing. It has an IP20 housing rating and is intended for installation in suitable control panels or enclosures.

What are the approximate physical dimensions?

For the PXC22-E.D housing style, the main dimensions are approximately 271.5 mm wide, 133.5 mm high and 90 mm deep, based on the Siemens compact automation station outline.

What should be considered during installation?

Installation should follow national electrical regulations and local panel-building requirements. Relay outputs may be connected to mains voltage, so suitable enclosure arrangements, terminal covers and external circuit protection should be used where required.

  • HVAC and building services automation in commercial facilities
  • BACnet/IP-based control within Siemens Desigo PX building management systems
