The Siemens 3LD2418-0TK13 is a SENTRON 3LD switch disconnector designed for dependable isolation and emergency switching-off in low-voltage power distribution and industrial control panels. It is a 3‑pole, fixed-mounted, floor-mounting unit with door-coupling for external operation, using a red/yellow knob-operated handle with a clear 1 (ON) / 0 (OFF) position indication and 4‑hole handle mounting.

Rated for up to 690 V AC and 250 A, the 3LD2418-0TK13 delivers high switching performance for demanding loads, with operating power up to 132 kW at 400 V (AC‑23A) and 55 kW at 690 V (AC‑23A), as well as 110 kW at 400 V (AC‑3). The device features an IP65 degree of protection at the front, finger-safe design, and a robust mechanical service life of typically 100,000 switching cycles. Short-circuit coordination is supported with upstream fuse protection (gG/gL 250 A for the main circuit), with conditional short-circuit current up to 50 kA at 690 V, and short-time withstand current (Icw) 4 kA for 1 second. Main power connections are via box terminals with a wide conductor capacity (typically 16 to 185 mm²), making it well suited to high-current panel builds where secure, lockable isolation is required.

What type of device is this?

It is a SENTRON 3LD switch disconnector designed for isolating a three-phase supply, with an EMERGENCY-OFF style red/yellow rotary operating handle.

What is it typically used for in an electrical panel?

It is commonly used as a main isolator for machinery or distribution panels, providing a visible ON/OFF position indication (1 ON / 0 OFF) and a means to disconnect the incoming supply for maintenance.

What are the main electrical ratings?

Key ratings include a rated operational voltage up to 690 V AC and a rated current (Iu) of 250 A. Operational power is typically 132 kW at AC-23A, 400 V and 55 kW at AC-23A, 690 V.

How many poles does it switch?

It is a 3-pole switch disconnector for three-phase applications.

Is it suitable for switching motor loads?

Yes. The device has stated utilisation categories including AC-23A (suitable for switching motor loads and mixed resistive/inductive loads). It is also rated for AC-3 duties (e.g., 110 kW at 400 V and 45 kW at 690 V).

Does it include a door-coupling handle for operating through an enclosure door?

Yes. It is configured for floor mounting with door coupling and a knob-operated red/yellow handle intended for panel door operation.

What is the ingress protection (IP) rating?

The device is rated IP65 (including on the front), which helps protect against dust ingress and water jets in typical industrial environments.

Can the switch be locked in the OFF position?

Yes. It can be locked in the OFF position. It supports up to three padlocks, with a hasp thickness range of 4 to 6 mm.

Does it have built-in auxiliary contacts?

No. The standard configuration lists 0 NC, 0 NO, and 0 changeover auxiliary contacts. However, auxiliary contacts can be added; the maximum attachable is typically up to 3 NC and up to 5 NO (depending on accessory selection).

What cable sizes can be connected to the main terminals?

The main circuit terminals accept copper conductors in the range 16 to 185 mm² (solid or stranded). For finely stranded conductors with end processing, up to 150 mm² is specified.

What short-circuit protection is required?

For short-circuit protection of the main circuit, a gL/gG fuse rated 250 A is specified as required. A typical conditional short-circuit current rating is 50 kA at 690 V when protected by a gG fuse.

What are the environmental operating limits?

Typical ambient operating temperature range is -25 °C to +55 °C, with an operating frequency up to 50 switching operations per hour.

What are the typical dimensions and weight?

The switch body is typically 112 mm (W) x 169 mm (H) x 94 mm (D), with a net weight of approximately 2.769 kg. Note that overall installed space can increase depending on the door-coupling arrangement.

Is it suitable for use as a maintenance/repair isolator?

Yes. It is stated as suitable for use as a maintenance/repair switch as well as a main switch and switch disconnector.

Are there any notable endurance figures for frequent operation?

Typical mechanical service life is stated at 100,000 switching cycles. Electrical endurance is stated at 6,000 cycles at AC-23A, 690 V (application dependent).

What is the typical power loss of the device in operation?

A typical active power loss is specified as 36 W per pole/conductor in hot operating state at rated current.

  • Main incoming isolator for low-voltage switchboards and distribution panels up to 690 V AC
  • Door-interlocked rotary isolator for control cabinets, enabling safe panel isolation from the enclosure door
  • Local emergency switching-off device for industrial machinery electrical cabinets using a red/yellow rotary handle
  • Load break switch for high-power motor feeders and heavy-duty loads (AC-23A duty) in manufacturing plant panels
  • Maintenance isolation point for conveyors, pumps, fans and compressors where a clearly visible OFF position is required
  • Power disconnection switch for process skids and packaged equipment (e.g., mixing, dosing and pumping systems)
  • Isolation switch for HVAC plant rooms and building services switchboards with higher current demand (up to 250 A)
  • Sectionalising switch within multi-bay panels to isolate individual panel sections for planned work
  • Isolation of three-phase supplies to large drives and motor control assemblies where robust switching and IP65 front protection are needed
  • Control-panel main switch for industrial installations requiring a lockable OFF position to prevent inadvertent reconnection
