What does this sensor detect?

This capacitive proximity sensor detects the presence of materials without physical contact. It can respond to targets including metal, water, glass and plastic, although the effective sensing distance varies with the material.

What is its sensing range?

The nominal sensing range is adjustable from 1 mm to 10 mm. The specified assured sensing distance is 7.2 mm.

What power supply does it require?

It operates from a 10–30 V DC supply.

What type of switching output does it have?

It has a PNP switching output and supports normally open or normally closed operation. The maximum continuous output current is 200 mA.

How is it connected?

The sensor has a 2 m, four-core cable. Brown connects to the positive supply, blue to the negative supply, black is the switching output, and white is the teach input.

How is the sensing setting adjusted?

Sensitivity can be set using the sensor’s teach-in button or its teach input wire.

What are its dimensions?

The rectangular housing measures 28 mm wide, 46 mm high and 5.5 mm deep.

Can it be installed flush in metal?

No. It is specified for non-flush installation, so the surrounding mounting arrangement should allow for this.

What does its IP68 rating mean for installation?

The sensor has an IP68 enclosure rating under EN 60529. The complete installation, including the cable arrangement, should still be assessed for the intended environment.

What operating temperatures can it withstand?

Its specified ambient operating temperature range is −20 °C to +85 °C. The cable should not be bent at temperatures below 0 °C.

How quickly can it switch?

The specified switching frequency is 10 Hz. Its delay before becoming available after power-up is no more than 300 ms.

Does the target material affect sensing distance?

Yes. The published reduction factors are reference values that may vary: metal and water are rated at 1, glass at 0.6, PVC at approximately 0.4, and oil at approximately 0.25.

  • Detecting plastic, glass or wooden items as they pass a short-range sensing point on a production line.
  • Checking whether containers are present before a filling or packaging operation begins.
  • Monitoring liquid levels through suitable non-metallic tank walls.
  • Detecting material build-up in hoppers or chutes to help control filling.
  • Confirming the presence of components in automated assembly equipment.
  • Sensing packaged goods where a compact, flat-profile sensor is needed close to the target.
