SICK 6044736, model WL280-2P2431 from the W280-2 series, is a compact photoelectric retro-reflective sensor designed for industrial object detection applications. Using visible red LED light with a polarisation filter, it detects objects by monitoring the reflected beam from a compatible reflector, making it suitable for conveyor lines, packaging machinery, handling systems and general automation equipment. This sensor features a rectangular ABS housing with PMMA optics and measures 23.5 mm x 74.5 mm x 63 mm. It operates from a 10 V DC to 30 V DC supply and provides a PNP switching output with selectable light/dark switching via rotary selector. The sensing range is up to 13 m with PL80A reflector or up to 11 m with the supplied P250 reflector, with maximum ranges of 15 m and 12 m respectively depending on reflector type. The WL280-2P2431 is built for reliable performance in demanding environments, with IP66/IP67 enclosure protection, a response time of ≤ 0.5 ms and a switching frequency of 1,000 Hz. Connection is via a 4-pin M12 male connector, and the unit includes built-in protection against reverse polarity, interference pulses, overcurrent and short circuits. The standard supply scope includes the BEF-W280 mounting bracket and P250 reflector, providing a practical sensing solution for industrial automation installations.
