SICK 6020768 is a WL260-R270 photoelectric retro-reflective sensor from the W260 range, designed for dependable object detection in industrial automation and machine applications. Built in a compact rectangular housing, it uses visible red light with a dual-lens optical system and polarisation filter to deliver stable sensing performance, with an operating range of up to 10 m when used with the supplied P250 reflector and up to 15 m maximum under suitable conditions. The sensor also includes a BEF-W260 mounting bracket, making installation more straightforward.

This model features an electrically isolated relay output with change-over contacts, light switching operation and adjustable sensitivity via potentiometer. On-delay and off-delay timing can be set from 0.1 to 10 seconds, giving added flexibility where controlled switching is required. With a wide supply voltage range of 12 to 240 V DC and 24 to 240 V AC, low power consumption, IP67 protection, and an operating temperature range of -25 °C to +55 °C, the 6020768 is well suited to demanding factory environments where robust, reliable photoelectric sensing is needed.

What does this photoelectric sensor do?

This unit is a retro-reflective photoelectric sensor designed to detect the presence of objects by sending visible red light towards a reflector and monitoring the returned beam. It is well suited to general industrial sensing tasks where reliable object detection is needed.

What type of sensing principle does it use?

It uses a retro-reflective operating principle with a dual-lens optical design. The sensor works with a reflector, allowing it to detect when an object interrupts the light path between the sensor and the reflector.

Is a reflector included with the sensor?

Yes. The standard package includes a P250 reflector and a BEF-W260 mounting bracket, which helps simplify installation. For this reason, the 6020768 version is convenient for straightforward setup.

What sensing range can be expected?

With the supplied P250 reflector, the operating range is 0.01 m to 10 m. Depending on the reflector used, the maximum sensing distance can reach up to 15 m.

What supply voltage does it accept?

The sensor offers a wide supply range, making it suitable for many panels and machines. It can operate on 12 V DC to 240 V DC and 24 V AC to 240 V AC, with a tolerance of plus or minus 10%.

What output does this sensor provide?

It provides an electrically isolated relay output with change-over contacts. The switching current is rated at 3 A at 240 V AC and 3 A at 30 V DC.

Does it have adjustable timing functions?

Yes. The sensor includes adjustable on-delay and off-delay functions. The delay can be set from 0.1 seconds up to 10 seconds, which is useful where brief interruptions or controlled switching behaviour are required.

Can the sensitivity be adjusted?

Yes. A built-in potentiometer allows sensitivity adjustment, helping the sensor adapt to different installation distances and application conditions.

What are the enclosure rating and environmental limits?

The unit is rated IP67, so it is suitable for demanding industrial environments where protection against dust and water ingress is important. Its operating temperature range is -25 degrees C to +55 degrees C.

What are the physical dimensions of the sensor?

The housing measures 25 mm wide, 78 mm high and 63 mm deep. It has a compact rectangular body that fits neatly into many machine and conveyor installations.

What kind of light source does it use?

It uses a visible red LED light source with an approximate beam angle of 1.7 degrees. At a distance of 10 m, the light spot size is approximately 300 mm.

Where is this sensor commonly used?

This style of sensor is commonly used on conveyors, packaging equipment, materials handling systems and general factory machinery where non-contact object detection is needed. The relay output and broad voltage range make it a practical choice for many established installations.
