Schneider Electric LC1D18JD is a TeSys D / TeSys Deca IEC, non-reversing 3‑pole contactor designed for dependable switching of three‑phase motors and resistive loads in industrial control panels. It features three normally open (3 NO) main power contacts with an AC‑3 rated operational current of 18 A at up to 440 V AC, and an AC‑1 rating of 32 A at up to 440 V AC, with power circuit capability up to 690 V AC (25…400 Hz) and up to 300 V DC. The control circuit uses a 12 V DC coil with integral suppression, helping to reduce transient effects in DC control systems.

For signalling and interlocking, the contactor includes built-in auxiliary contacts (1 NO + 1 NC), including mechanically linked and mirror contact functionality to IEC requirements. Typical motor ratings include 7.5 kW at 380/400 V AC and 10 hp at 460/480 V AC (application dependent). The LC1D18JD is an open-type device with IP20 protection on the front face, suitable for mounting on DIN rail or a mounting plate, and uses screw clamp terminals for both power and control connections.

What type of device is this and what does it do?

This is a 3‑pole, non‑reversing power contactor designed to switch electrical loads—most commonly three‑phase motors (start/stop control) and resistive loads—using a low‑voltage DC control signal.

What control voltage does the coil require?

It uses a 12 V DC control coil (Uc = 12 VDC).

Does the coil include built-in surge suppression?

Yes. The coil technology includes an integral suppression device, which helps reduce switching transients in DC control circuits.

How many main poles and what is the main contact arrangement?

It is a 3‑pole (3P) contactor with 3 normally open (3 NO) main power contacts.

Are auxiliary contacts included?

Yes. It includes 1 NO + 1 NC auxiliary contact set. The auxiliary contacts are mechanically linked, and the NC auxiliary is specified as a mirror contact type.

What current ratings is it designed for?

Rated operational current is 18 A in AC‑3 duty at up to 440 V AC, and 32 A in AC‑1 duty at up to 440 V AC (at 60 °C reference conditions).

Which utilisation categories can it be used for?

It is specified for AC‑1, AC‑3, AC‑3e and AC‑4 utilisation categories, covering resistive loads and a range of motor switching duties.

What motor power can it handle in typical three-phase applications?

Typical AC‑3 motor ratings include 4 kW at 220–230 V, 7.5 kW at 380–400 V, 9 kW at 415–440 V, and 10 kW at 500 V and 660–690 V (50/60 Hz).

Can it be used on higher system voltages?

The power circuit is rated for system voltages up to 690 V AC (25–400 Hz). It is also rated up to 300 V DC on the power circuit.

What mounting options are supported?

It is designed for mounting on a DIN rail or onto a plate, which makes it suitable for standard control panels.

What are the physical dimensions?

Approximate overall dimensions are 77 mm (height) × 45 mm (width) × 95 mm (depth), with a net weight of about 0.49 kg.

What type of terminal connections does it use and what wire sizes are supported?

It uses screw clamp terminals. Control terminals accept 1–4 mm² (with ferrules up to 2.5 mm² depending on the terminal), and power terminals accept 1.5–6 mm² (with ferrules up to 4 mm² depending on the terminal).

What tightening torque is recommended for the terminals?

The specified tightening torque is 1.7 N·m for both power and control screw clamp terminals.

How fast does it operate when switching?

Typical operating times are approximately 53.55–72.45 ms for closing and 16–24 ms for opening.

What environmental and protection characteristics does it have?

It has IP20 protection on the front face and is specified for operation in ambient air temperatures from -40 °C to +60 °C (with derating up to +70 °C).
