Red Lion CUB4L810 is a compact CUB4 Series 8-digit miniature electronic counter featuring a negative transmissive LCD with yellow/green LED backlighting and 0.46 in (11.7 mm) high digits for clear visibility on the panel. Designed for dependable industrial counting applications, it supports count rates up to 5 kHz on the high-speed input and 30 Hz on the low-speed input, with front-panel reset capability and provisions for remote reset. The unit is powered by an internal 3.0 V lithium battery for long-duration operation, while the backlight requires an external 9–28 VDC supply. It mounts in a standard panel cutout and includes a sealed front bezel rated NEMA 4X/IP65 for indoor panel installations, with rear screw-clamp terminals for straightforward wiring.

What does this counter do in an industrial panel?

It is a compact 8-digit electronic counter designed to totalize incoming pulses from sensors or contact devices, displaying the accumulated count on an LCD for quick at-a-glance monitoring.

What kind of display does it use, and how readable is it?

It uses an 8-digit LCD with 0.46 in (11.7 mm) high digits. This model uses a negative image display with yellow/green backlighting to improve readability in low-light panels.

Does it need external power to count pulses?

No. Counting operation is powered by an internal 3.0 V lithium battery (typical life up to about 7 years depending on use). External power is only required to run the backlight.

What external supply is required for the backlight?

Provide 9 to 28 VDC to the backlight supply terminals. Typical current is about 35 mA, with 50 mA maximum.

Are there any voltage or temperature considerations when powering the backlight?

Yes. When operating above 26 VDC for the backlight, the recommended maximum operating temperature is reduced (derating applies).

What input types can be used for counting?

It supports both a low-speed count input intended for switch contact or open-collector type signals, and a high-speed count input intended for faster electronic pulse sources.

What are the maximum count rates for the inputs?

The high-speed input supports count rates up to 5 kHz (with an appropriate pulse source and duty cycle). The low-speed input supports up to 30 Hz, typically used with mechanical contacts or slower transistor outputs.

What is the maximum input signal level allowed?

Input pulse excursion should be limited to a maximum of 3 VDC to avoid damage. Logic-level or transistor outputs may require simple limiting (such as a resistor or divider) depending on the source voltage.

How can the counter be reset?

Reset can be done using the sealed front reset button, via a remote reset input (pulled low to common), or by enabling the front reset button through the reset-enable input depending on how you wire it.

Is there any response delay on the remote reset input?

Yes. The remote reset input includes internal protection filtering that introduces an approximate 15 ms reset response delay.

How is it typically mounted in a control panel?

It is designed for panel mounting using a gasket and mounting clip to seal the front face. When installed correctly, the front bezel area is suitable for washdown/dusty environments in indoor panels.

What environmental conditions is it suited for?

Typical operating range is -20 to 75°C with humidity up to 85% (non-condensing). Installation altitude is up to 2000 m.

What level of front-face sealing does it provide when installed correctly?

The front bezel is sealed for indoor use and is rated to NEMA 4X / IP65 (face-only) when properly installed with the gasket and mounting hardware.

How are electrical connections made?

Connections are made on rear screw-clamp terminals. Terminations are intended for standard industrial wiring practices and secure clamping of conductors.

Can it share the same panel cutout as older miniature counters?

Yes. It is designed to fit the same panel cutout commonly used by earlier compact counter series, which can simplify replacements and panel standardization.

  • Pulse counting from proximity sensors, photoelectric sensors, or encoder outputs to track machine cycles and production totals
  • Monitoring cut-to-length operations by counting strokes, cuts, or indexing events on automated equipment
  • Tracking conveyor movement by counting items passing a detection point for throughput verification
  • Counting press or punch operations to schedule tool changes and prevent overrun on setpiece jobs
  • Recording batch totals on packaging, filling, or labeling lines where an on-panel, always-visible counter is needed
  • Counting actuations of valves, solenoids, or cylinders to support preventive maintenance intervals based on actual use
  • Measuring event totals in sorting and material-handling systems where simple, reliable accumulation is required
  • Panel-mount totalizing for utilities or process equipment by counting pulses from flow, level, or metering devices with pulse outputs
  • Machine runtime event accumulation in test stands and endurance rigs by counting test cycles and resets between runs
  • Retrofitting older panels that require a compact, sealed-front, 8-digit display with external backlighting power available
