The Pilz PNOZ MM0P is a base unit from the PNOZmulti modular safety system, designed for configurable monitoring and control of machine safety circuits in industrial automation environments. It is used with functions such as emergency stop circuits, safety gate monitoring, two-hand controls, reset circuits, enabling switches, light beam devices and other protective devices.

This compact unit operates on a 24 V DC supply and provides 12 inputs, 8 configurable inputs/outputs, 4 configurable test pulse or auxiliary outputs, and 4 semiconductor safety outputs. Depending on the application design, the semiconductor outputs can support performance levels up to PL e and SIL CL 3. The unit includes LED status indication, an LC display, diagnostic messaging, short-circuit monitoring and a chip card slot for storing and transferring the configured project.

With a 45 mm width and DIN rail mounting, the PNOZ MM0P is well suited to control cabinet installations where space is limited. It is intended for use in industrial machinery and automation systems requiring flexible, configurable safety logic within the Pilz PNOZmulti platform.

What type of device is this?

It is a configurable base unit from the PNOZmulti modular safety system, used to monitor machine safety functions and switch semiconductor safety outputs according to a configured safety circuit.

What applications is it commonly used for?

It is commonly used with E-STOP circuits, safety gate monitoring, two-hand controls, reset functions, light beam devices, scanners, enabling switches, operating mode selector switches and similar industrial machine safety functions.

How many safety outputs does the unit provide?

The PNOZ mm0p provides 4 semiconductor safety outputs, designated O0 to O3. Depending on the application design, these can be used for safety functions up to PL e and SIL CL 3.

How many inputs are available?

The unit has 12 dedicated inputs, plus 8 configurable inputs/outputs that can be assigned as inputs or auxiliary outputs depending on the project configuration.

What supply voltage does it use?

The unit operates from a 24 V DC supply with a voltage tolerance of -15% to +20%. The semiconductor outputs also require a 24 V DC supply, even if those outputs are not being used.

Does it require a chip card to operate?

Yes. A chip card is required for operation. The chip card stores the configured project and is inserted into the base unit before commissioning.

What chip card sizes are used with this type of unit?

Chip cards are available in 8 kByte and 32 kByte memory sizes. For larger projects, the 32 kByte card is generally recommended.

How is the safety circuit configured?

The safety circuit is created using the PNOZmulti Configurator, then transferred to the base unit via chip card or USB connection, depending on the commissioning method being used.

What do the LEDs indicate?

The LEDs indicate key operating states such as power, run status, diagnostics, faults, input faults and output faults. The unit is ready for operation when the POWER and RUN LEDs are lit continuously.

Can it detect wiring faults?

Yes. The unit uses test pulse outputs to monitor shorts across inputs, and it also monitors shorts between the semiconductor safety outputs.

How is the unit mounted?

It is designed for installation on a 35 mm DIN rail inside a control cabinet. The cabinet should provide at least IP54 protection, and the unit should normally be mounted horizontally with adequate spacing for heat dissipation.

What are the physical dimensions?

The unit measures approximately 100 mm high, 45 mm wide and 120 mm deep. The listed weight for the standard PNOZ mm0p is approximately 280 g.

What terminal types can be used?

Plug-in connection terminals are used, with either screw terminals or spring-loaded terminals available as accessory terminal sets.

What wiring should be used?

Copper wiring rated for 75 °C should be used. With screw terminals, flexible conductors from 0.25 to 2.50 mm² can be used for a single core, while spring-loaded terminals accept flexible conductors from 0.20 to 2.50 mm².

What should be checked during commissioning?

The wiring should match the configured circuit diagram, the chip card should contain the correct project, the supply voltage should be connected correctly, and the safety devices should be function-tested after a project download or chip card change.
