The Phoenix Contact 0903026, model EC-E1 4A, is an electronic circuit breaker designed for selective protection of 24 V DC load circuits supplied by switched-mode power supplies. With a nominal current rating of 4 A and an operating voltage range of 18–32 V DC, it combines active electronic current limitation with overload shutdown to protect individual circuits and reduce the effect of faults on the upstream power supply. An integrated volt-free normally open contact enables remote status indication.

The compact black housing measures 12.5 mm wide, 83 mm high and 80 mm deep, and mounts onto a standard 35 mm DIN rail. Screw connections accommodate solid and flexible conductors from 0.5 to 16 mm², with smaller limits applying when ferrules are used. Rated IP20, the unit operates at ambient temperatures from 0°C to 50°C in non-condensing conditions. An integrated failsafe element removes the need for a separate backup fuse.

What is this electronic circuit breaker used for?

The EC-E1 4A is designed for selective protection of 24 V DC load circuits supplied by switched-mode power supplies. It combines active electronic current limitation with overload shutdown to help isolate a faulty circuit.

What are the rated current and operating voltage?

The nominal current is 4 A and the rated operating voltage is 24 V DC. The specified operating voltage range is 18–32 V DC.

How does the breaker respond to short circuits?

Active electronic current limitation restricts fault current, while the electronic tripping characteristic enables short-circuit detection even along long cable runs. This helps reduce the effect of a faulty load circuit on the upstream power supply.

Does the breaker have a remote indication contact?

Yes. It includes one normally open, volt-free signal contact for remote indication, allowing its status to be incorporated into a monitoring circuit.

How is the breaker mounted?

The breaker mounts onto a 35 mm DIN rail. Compatible rail profiles include NS 35/7.5 and NS 35/15.

What are the dimensions?

The unit measures 12.5 mm wide, 83 mm high and 80 mm deep. The specified height is 83 mm on NS 35/7.5 rail and 90.5 mm on NS 35/15 rail.

What type of electrical connections does it use?

The breaker uses screw connections with M4 screws. The specified conductor stripping length is 10 mm, and the maximum tightening torque is 1.2 Nm.

What conductor sizes can the terminals accept?

For single conductors, the terminals accept solid or flexible conductors from 0.5 to 16 mm², corresponding to the stated range of 20–6 AWG. Flexible conductors fitted with ferrules are accepted from 0.5 to 10 mm². Separate limits apply when connecting two conductors in one terminal.

What operating temperature range is specified?

The specified ambient operating temperature is 0°C to 50°C under non-condensing conditions.

What is the enclosure protection rating?

The housing has an IP20 protection rating. It does not provide protection against water ingress.

Is a separate backup fuse required?

The manufacturer's technical data states that a separate backup fuse is not required because the breaker incorporates an integrated failsafe element.

Does mounting several breakers side by side affect continuous loading?

Yes. When breakers are mounted in rows without convection cooling, the manufacturer's installation instructions limit continuous loading to a maximum of 80% of the nominal device current because of thermal effects.

Can multiple breakers be connected in parallel to increase the current rating?

No. Parallel connection of multiple circuit breakers is expressly prohibited by the manufacturer's installation instructions.

Which accessories are listed for use with the breaker?

Listed accessories include continuous plug-in bridges, 35 mm DIN rails, end clamps and terminal markers. These provide options for arranging, securing and identifying breakers within a control panel.
