Pepperl+Fuchs 180161, model DAD15-8P-R-2388, is an optical data coupler designed for bidirectional transmission of 8-bit parallel control signals across an infrared light path. Used as a paired master-and-slave system, it converts parallel PNP input signals into a serial optical sequence before reproducing them at the corresponding outputs of the receiving unit. Its wide ±20° divergence angle and effective operating range of up to 1,500 mm support reliable alignment in industrial automation applications. The coupler operates from a 10–60 V DC supply and provides short-circuit-protected PNP outputs rated at up to 200 mA per channel, with a maximum combined load of 800 mA. Individual green and red LEDs indicate input and output states, while additional indicators monitor operation and reception. Adjustable sensitivity, selectable output behavior following beam interruption, address switches, and device-chaining capability provide flexible configuration. The IP67 housing features a glass optical face, spring-loaded terminals, and two M16 cable glands for robust installation in demanding industrial environments.
