The Beckhoff EP4374-0002 is a compact EtherCAT Box designed for decentralised analogue signal processing in industrial automation systems. Its robust industrial housing provides two 16-bit analogue input channels and two 16-bit analogue output channels, each configurable for ±10 V, 0–10 V, 0–20 mA or 4–20 mA signals.

Operating from a 24 V DC control supply, the module uses M12 connections for analogue devices and M8 connections for EtherCAT communication and power. Its IP65, IP66 and IP67 protection ratings make it suitable for installation outside the control cabinet in demanding environments. The EP4374-0002 supports line-based EtherCAT and power distribution, while its status indicators allow operating, communication and channel conditions to be identified quickly.

What type of industrial module is this?

It is a compact EtherCAT Box combining two analogue inputs and two analogue outputs in an industrial housing designed for installation outside a control cabinet.

Which analogue signal ranges can be configured?

Each input and output channel can be individually configured for -10 to +10 V, 0 to 10 V, 0 to 20 mA or 4 to 20 mA signals.

How many analogue channels are provided?

The EP4374-0002 provides four analogue channels in total: two input channels and two output channels.

Which fieldbus protocol does the module use?

The module communicates through EtherCAT and has two green M8 EtherCAT sockets, enabling integration into a line topology.

What supply voltage is required?

The control electronics require 24 V DC with a permitted tolerance of -15% to +20%. A separate peripheral supply of 0 to 30 V DC powers connected sensors and actuators.

What is the analogue resolution?

The -10 to +10 V range uses 16-bit resolution. The 0 to 10 V, 0 to 20 mA and 4 to 20 mA ranges use 15-bit resolution.

What connectors are used for the analogue channels?

The two analogue inputs and two analogue outputs use five-pin M12 sockets. As the input and output connectors have the same format, their channel markings should be checked carefully during wiring.

What level of environmental protection does the housing provide?

When all connectors and protective caps are correctly fitted, the housing is rated IP65, IP66 and IP67 in accordance with EN 60529.

What is the permitted operating temperature range?

The general operating range is -25°C to +60°C. For installations governed by cURus or ATEX conditions, the applicable upper limit is +55°C.

Can it be mounted outside a control cabinet?

Yes. Its sealed industrial housing is intended for decentralised installation in wet, dusty or dirty industrial environments, provided the connectors are properly secured.

What are the approximate dimensions and weight?

The housing measures approximately 126 x 30 x 26.5 mm, excluding connectors, and weighs around 165 g.

How is the module mounted?

It can be installed in any orientation and is secured using two M3 screws through the 3.5 mm mounting holes in the housing.

Can power be passed on to another EtherCAT Box?

Yes. The power input and downstream M8 connections are internally bridged, allowing the control and peripheral supplies to continue to another box. The maximum permitted current is 4 A for each supply circuit.

Are the analogue circuits electrically isolated?

The analogue channels share a common analogue ground, which is galvanically isolated from the other ground potentials in the box. The fieldbus and I/O sections have 500 V electrical isolation.

What do the status indicators show?

The indicators show EtherCAT link and activity, network operating state, control and peripheral power presence, channel data transfer, and analogue input conditions such as wire break, underrange or overrange.

What is the typical current consumption of the module electronics?

The module electronics typically draw 120 mA from the 24 V DC control supply.

Can the input and output ranges be changed during operation?

Yes. The analogue ranges are parameterisable and can be changed during operation. The required range should be selected before connecting a sensor or actuator to prevent incorrect signals or equipment damage.

What are the analogue conversion times?

The analogue inputs have a conversion time of approximately 100 microseconds, while the analogue outputs have a conversion time of approximately 40 microseconds.

What load limits apply to the analogue outputs?

Voltage outputs require a load resistance above 5 kΩ. Current outputs require a load below 500 Ω.

Which applications is this module commonly used for?

Typical uses include decentralised measurement and control involving pressure, flow, level or position signals, as well as analogue commands for valves, drives and other industrial actuators.

  • Connecting analogue sensors and actuators directly to EtherCAT control networks
  • Monitoring voltage and current signals from industrial process instruments
  • Controlling proportional valves, drives and other analogue field devices
  • Acquiring and generating ±10 V, 0–10 V, 0–20 mA and 4–20 mA signals
  • Installing distributed analogue I/O outside the control cabinet
  • Supporting machine automation in wet, dusty or demanding industrial environments
  • Integrating pressure, temperature, flow and position transmitters into automated systems
  • Providing high-resolution analogue signal processing for production machinery
  • Expanding remote I/O capacity in modular EtherCAT installations
  • Enabling decentralised process measurement and control applications
