The Beckhoff EP3162-0002 is a compact EtherCAT Box module designed to acquire analogue signals directly at the machine. It provides two individually parameterisable, single-ended analogue inputs through 5-pin M12 sockets, supporting signal ranges of -10 to +10 V, 0 to 10 V, 0 to 20 mA, 4 to 20 mA and -20 to +20 mA. Each channel offers 16-bit resolution, approximately 100 µs conversion time and electrical isolation between the input channels.

Designed for decentralised industrial automation, the EP3162-0002 connects to EtherCAT through two M8 sockets and operates from a nominal 24 V DC supply. Its robust, space-saving housing measures approximately 126 × 30 × 26.5 mm and carries IP65, IP66 and IP67 protection ratings when correctly connected. Configurable input filtering, scaling and limit monitoring make the module suitable for precise measurement applications involving pressure, flow, level, temperature transmitters and other voltage or current-output sensors.

What type of module is this?

The EP3162-0002 is a compact EtherCAT Box designed to acquire two analogue voltage or current signals directly at a machine. Its sealed housing and industrial connectors make it suitable for decentralised I/O installations.

How many analogue input channels does it provide?

It provides two individually parameterisable, single-ended analogue input channels.

Which analogue signal ranges are supported?

Each channel can be configured for -10 to +10 V, 0 to 10 V, 0 to 20 mA, 4 to 20 mA or -20 to +20 mA signals. The default range is -10 to +10 V.

What resolution do the analogue inputs offer?

The analogue inputs provide 16-bit resolution, including the sign, allowing precise conversion of connected sensor signals.

Which communication protocol does the module use?

The module communicates through EtherCAT and has two green M8 sockets for incoming and downstream network connections.

Does it support Distributed Clocks?

Yes. Distributed Clocks functionality is supported for synchronised data acquisition within an EtherCAT system.

What power supply does the module require?

It operates from a nominal 24 V DC control supply with an allowable range of -15% to +20%. The supply connections have a maximum combined current capacity of 4 A, including connected loads and onward power transmission.

Can it provide power to connected sensors?

Yes. Each channel offers an isolated 24 V DC sensor supply, with a maximum continuous output current of 50 mA and a maximum peak current of 100 mA.

Are the analogue channels electrically isolated?

Yes. The two input channels have 300 V electrical isolation between them, while the EtherCAT fieldbus and I/O sections have 500 V isolation.

What connectors are used for the analogue inputs?

The two analogue channels use separate 5-pin M12 sockets. The EtherCAT connections and power feed-through connections use M8 connectors.

What is the typical conversion time?

The analogue conversion time is approximately 100 microseconds. The input filter is parameterisable, with a stated limit frequency of 5 kHz.

What measurement accuracy does it provide?

The maximum measuring error is 0.3% relative to the full-scale value across the specified operating conditions.

What environmental protection does the housing provide?

When all connectors are correctly fitted and sealed, the housing meets IP65, IP66 and IP67 requirements in accordance with EN 60529. This makes it suitable for wet, dusty and dirty industrial environments.

What is the permitted operating temperature range?

The general operating range is -25°C to +60°C. For installations subject to cURus conditions, the specified range is -25°C to +55°C.

What are the module's dimensions and weight?

The housing measures approximately 126 × 30 × 26.5 mm, excluding connectors, and weighs approximately 165 g.

How is the module mounted?

It can be installed in any orientation and is secured using two M3 screws through 3.5 mm mounting holes. The mounting holes are not threaded.

What do the channel status indicators show?

Each M12 input has a green indicator for data transfer to the analogue-to-digital converter and a red indicator for conditions such as a broken wire or a measured value outside the configured range.

Can the input channels be configured independently?

Yes. Each channel can be assigned its own supported signal type, filtering, scaling and limit-monitoring parameters through the EtherCAT configuration.
