The B&R 3UM161.6 is a universal mixed I/O module for B&R System 2005 automation installations. It combines four 14-bit differential analogue inputs and three 12-bit analogue outputs, all operating across a ±10 V range, with 16 configurable 24 V DC digital channels. Channels 15 and 16 can function as digital inputs or transistor outputs, providing rated output currents of 10 mA and 2 A respectively.

Designed for high-density signal processing, the module also includes a ±10 V potentiometer supply, a 10 kHz event counter or period-measurement input, latch functionality and integrated comparators for rapid response to changing analogue values. Status LEDs provide clear indication of operating conditions, supply status, comparator configuration and individual digital channel states. Two separately ordered 18-pin TB718 terminal blocks are required for field connections.

What type of industrial component is this?

It is a universal mixed I/O module designed for B&R System 2005 control installations. The module combines analogue inputs, analogue outputs, digital inputs and transistor outputs in a single-width unit.

How many analogue inputs are provided?

The module provides four differential analogue inputs with a nominal signal range of -10 V to +10 V and 14-bit converter resolution.

How many analogue outputs are available?

There are three analogue voltage outputs. Each output operates over a -10 V to +10 V range and uses 12-bit converter resolution.

What digital input capacity does the module offer?

It supports 16 digital input channels in total. Channels 15 and 16 are multifunctional and may instead be configured as the module's two digital outputs.

What are the ratings of the transistor outputs?

Both transistor outputs operate at 24 V DC. Output 1 is rated at 10 mA, while Output 2 is rated at 2 A.

Can the digital channels accept sink and source wiring?

Yes. The digital inputs can be wired for either sink or source operation, while the digital outputs use source wiring.

Does the module include counter and period-measurement functions?

Yes. Digital input 1 can operate as a 16-bit event counter or provide period-duration measurement with a resolution of 10 microseconds. Its maximum rated counter frequency is 10 kHz with a symmetrical square-wave signal.

What is the purpose of the comparator function?

The comparator function enables a rapid response when selected analogue inputs cross configured threshold values. It can act on digital outputs or apply defined switching values to selected analogue outputs, with a reaction time below 50 microseconds.

Is a potentiometer supply included?

Yes. The 3UM161.6 includes an electrically isolated potentiometer supply providing +10 V and -10 V. It is intended for connecting potentiometers to the analogue input channels.

What terminal blocks are required?

Two 18-pin TB718 terminal blocks are required for field connections. Compatible versions include the 7TB718.9 screw-clamp block and the 7TB718.91 cage-clamp block. The terminal blocks are separate accessories.

Can the module be installed in both main and expansion racks?

Yes. This System 2005 I/O module is suitable for installation in either a main rack or an expansion rack.

What is the module's power consumption?

Maximum consumption is 2 W from the 5 V supply and 4 W from the 24 V supply, with up to an additional 1.5 W required for the potentiometer supply. The stated maximum total is 6 W.

How quickly are the analogue channels converted?

Conversion takes less than 45 microseconds for all four analogue inputs and less than 45 microseconds for all three analogue outputs.

What do the front status indicators show?

The indicators display converter operation, valid digital supply voltage, comparator configuration and the states of digital channels 1 to 16. For channels 15 and 16, the indication reflects either input state or output control state, depending on configuration.

What digital supply voltage range is required?

The digital section is designed for a nominal 24 V DC supply. Its specified switching voltage range is 18 to 30 V DC, and the DCOK indicator illuminates when the supply exceeds 18 V DC.
