The ABB SK1-11 is a compact signalling contact designed for right-side mounting on ABB MS116, MS132, MO132, MS165 and MO165 manual motor starters. Equipped with one normally open and one normally closed contact, it provides clear indication when the connected starter trips due to a short circuit, overload or electrical release. A protruding orange button gives a visible trip indication and allows the contact positions to be manually reset.

Featuring screw terminals and an IP20-rated enclosure, the SK1-11 supports AC-15 operational currents up to 6 A at 24 V and DC-13 currents up to 2 A at 24 V. Its slim 9 mm width makes it suitable for compact control-panel installations where dependable motor starter status signalling is required.

What is the function of this signalling contact?

It provides an electrical indication when a compatible manual motor starter trips. This allows the trip condition to be communicated to a control circuit, indicator lamp or monitoring device.

Which manual motor starters are compatible with this contact?

The SK1-11 is designed for use with ABB MS116, MS132, MO132, MS165 and MO165 manual motor starters.

How many contacts does it provide?

It provides one normally open contact and one normally closed contact, commonly described as a 1 NO + 1 NC contact arrangement.

What types of trip can it indicate?

It can indicate a trip caused by a short circuit, overload or operation of a compatible electrical release, such as an AA1 shunt trip or UA1 undervoltage release.

Where is the contact fitted on the motor starter?

It is mounted on the right-hand side of the compatible manual motor starter.

Does the trip indication reset automatically?

No. After a trip, the contact positions must be reset manually by pressing the protruding orange button on the device.

What terminal type is used?

The unit uses screw terminals for connecting the auxiliary circuit conductors.

What are the rated operational currents for AC-15 applications?

The AC-15 ratings are 6 A at 24 V, 4 A at 240 V, 3 A at 380–400 V and 1 A at 690 V.

What are the rated operational currents for DC-13 applications?

The DC-13 ratings are 2 A at 24 V, 0.55 A at 125 V, 0.27 A at 250 V and 0.15 A at 440 V or 600 V.

What are the rated insulation and impulse withstand voltages?

The rated insulation voltage is 690 V, while the auxiliary circuit has a rated impulse withstand voltage of 6 kV.

What conductor sizes can be connected?

The terminals accept flexible conductors from 0.75 to 1.5 mm², including conductors with ferrules, and rigid conductors from 1 to 1.5 mm².

What tightening torque should be applied to the terminals?

The specified tightening torque for the auxiliary circuit terminals is 0.8 to 1.2 N·m. The recommended wire stripping length is 8 mm.

What are its dimensions and weight?

The contact measures approximately 9 mm wide, 90 mm high and 78.5 mm deep. Its net weight is approximately 0.035 kg.

What degree of ingress protection does it provide?

The device has an IP20 degree of protection when installed in the intended configuration.

What operating temperatures can it withstand?

It is specified for operation in ambient temperatures from -25°C to +60°C and for storage from -50°C to +80°C.

What is the expected contact durability?

The specified electrical durability and mechanical durability are each 100,000 operating cycles under the stated conditions.

Which standards does the signalling contact conform to?

The product is specified in accordance with standards including IEC/EN 60947-1, IEC/EN 60947-5-1, UL 508, UL 60947-1, UL 60947-4-1 and CSA 22.2 No. 14.

Can it be used as an auxiliary status contact for normal switching?

This device is specifically intended to signal a trip condition. An auxiliary contact from the HK or HKF range is generally used when the application requires indication of the normal ON or OFF position.
