Siemens 5SV1316-1KK02 is a SENTRON RCBO compact device that combines residual current protection and overcurrent/short-circuit protection in a single 1-module (18 mm) unit for DIN-rail distribution boards. It is a 1P+N (two-pole with neutral switching) RCBO with C-curve tripping characteristic and a rated current of 2 A, designed for 230 V AC, 50 Hz systems. The unit provides 30 mA residual current protection (type AC) and offers a rated short-circuit breaking capacity of 6 kA in accordance with EN 61009-1, with energy limitation class 3. It features touch protection, is halogen-free and silicon-free, and supports supply connection from either the top or bottom. Screw terminals accept 0.75 to 16 mm² conductors (up to 10 mm² finely stranded with end processing), with a tightening torque range of 1.2 to 2 N·m. The device has an IP20 rating when installed in a distribution board with connected conductors and is suitable for operation from -25 °C to +45 °C.

Product Description (for website) Siemens SENTRON 5SV1316-1KK02 is a compact 1P+N RCBO combining residual-current protection (Type AC, 30 mA) with C-curve overcurrent protection rated at 2 A. Designed for AC 230 V systems, it offers 6 kA short-circuit breaking capacity in a space-saving 1-module format, with neutral switching, flexible top or bottom supply connection, and screw terminals suitable for a wide range of conductor sizes.

What type of protective device is this?

It is a compact RCBO (Residual Current Circuit Breaker with Overload Protection) that combines residual-current protection (RCD) with overcurrent and short-circuit protection (MCB) in a single unit.

What is the pole configuration and what does 1P+N mean in practice?

The device is 1P+N with 2 poles total: the live conductor is protected (overload/short-circuit) and both live and neutral are switched together. The datasheet specifies neutral conductor switching as “Yes”.

What are the rated operating voltage and frequency?

Rated supply voltage is 230 V AC at 50 Hz. The insulation voltage (Ui) is 253 V, and the rated surge voltage withstand is 4 kV.

What is the rated current and tripping curve?

It is a 2 A device with a C tripping characteristic (C-curve), suitable where moderate inrush currents are expected compared with a B-curve device.

What residual-current sensitivity does it provide?

The rated tripping residual current is 30 mA, providing additional protection against earth leakage faults.

What residual-current type is it (AC or A)?

It is residual current type AC, intended for alternating sinusoidal residual currents.

What is the short-circuit breaking capacity?

Short-circuit breaking capacity (Icn) is rated at 6 kA according to EN 61009-1. The datasheet also states 6 kA to EN 60898 and 10 kA to IEC 60947-2 (test standard rating).

How much space does it take up in a distribution board?

It occupies 1 modular width (1 MW). Typical overall dimensions are 90 mm (H) x 18 mm (W) x 77 mm (D), with an installation depth of 70 mm.

Can the incoming supply be connected from the top or bottom?

Yes. The power supply can be connected either from the top or the bottom, which helps when matching existing wiring layouts.

What conductor sizes can be connected to the terminals?

Solid conductors: 0.75 to 16 mm². Stranded conductors: 0.75 to 16 mm². Finely stranded with end processing (e.g., ferrules): 0.75 to 10 mm².

What terminal tightening torque should be used?

For the screw-type terminals, the tightening torque range is 1.2 to 2.0 N·m.

What are the operating and storage temperature ranges?

Ambient temperature during operation is -25 °C to +45 °C. Storage temperature is -40 °C to +75 °C.

Does the rated current change with higher ambient temperatures?

Yes. The datasheet provides temperature-related current values: 2 A at 30 °C, 1.9 A at 40 °C, 1.86 A at 45 °C, 1.8 A at 50 °C, 1.76 A at 55 °C, 1.7 A at 60 °C, 1.66 A at 65 °C, and 1.6 A at 70 °C.

What ingress protection rating does it have?

It is rated IP20 when installed in a distribution board with conductors connected (touch-protected in typical installed conditions).

Are there material features that help with installation environments?

Yes. The datasheet states it is halogen-free and silicon-free, and it also notes touch protection features.

  • Combined residual-current and overcurrent protection for single-phase final circuits in low-voltage distribution boards
  • Protection of socket-outlet circuits where 30 mA residual current protection is required alongside a compact breaker solution
  • Line protection for lighting circuits in commercial premises, offices, and residential installations
  • Use on small-load circuits requiring a C-curve characteristic to accommodate moderate inrush currents (e.g. certain lighting drivers and small power supplies)
  • Circuit protection for dedicated supplies to appliances and fixed equipment on 230 V AC installations
  • Integration into compact consumer units and modular DIN-rail assemblies where space is limited (1 module width)
  • Segmented protection of individual outgoing ways to minimise the impact of a fault on the rest of the installation
  • Protection of auxiliary and control circuits within panels where both earth-leakage and overcurrent protection are specified
  • Retrofitting or upgrading of existing boards to add residual-current protection at the circuit level without adding separate devices
  • General-purpose protection for 1P+N circuits in building services distribution, including small plant and ancillary loads
