The Beckhoff EL5101 is an EtherCAT Terminal designed for the direct connection of incremental encoders with differential inputs (RS485). This high-performance interface features a 32/16-bit counter with a quadrature decoder and a 32/16-bit latch for the zero pulse, which can be read, set, or enabled. The terminal is compatible with incremental encoders that have alarm outputs, allowing for connection at the interface's status input. With a limit frequency of 4 million increments/s (with 4-fold evaluation) and interval measurement capabilities with a resolution of up to 100 ns, the EL5101 ensures precise axis positioning for dynamic axes. The gate input enables the counter to be halted, while the latch input captures the counter state with a rising edge. Supporting EtherCAT distributed clocks (DC), the EL5101 allows for synchronous reading of the encoder value alongside other input data in the EtherCAT system. With a compact design and IP20 protection class, this terminal is a reliable and efficient solution for various industrial applications.
