The Red Lion CUB4LP40 is a compact digital panel meter designed for clear local indication of analogue process signals in industrial applications. This loop-powered model operates from a 4–20 mA or 10–50 mA input and features a 3½-digit, 0.6-inch LCD with red backlighting, making readings easier to view at the panel. Its positive image transflective display combines good visibility in ambient light with illuminated readability when required.

Built for flexible process indication, the CUB4LP40 offers adjustable span and offset, selectable decimal point positions, and a display range of -1999 to 1999. This allows it to be scaled for a wide variety of values, including pressure, level, temperature, flow and other process measurements. The unit is housed in a durable high-impact plastic case and, when correctly installed, provides a NEMA 4X / IP65 sealed front for use on enclosed panels in demanding indoor environments. Its DIN-standard panel cut-out format also makes it a practical choice for straightforward integration into existing equipment.

What does this digital panel meter do?

This unit is a loop-powered process indicator designed to display analogue current signals in a clear local readout. It is commonly used to show process values such as pressure, temperature, level, flow or position after the signal has been scaled to the required engineering units.

What input signals does it accept?

It is designed for dual current ranges and can be set for either 4 to 20 mA or 10 to 50 mA input. The input range is selected using the rear DIP switch settings during setup.

Does it need a separate power supply to operate?

No. The indicator itself is loop powered, so it operates from the process current signal. On the CUB4LP40 version, the red backlight is also powered from the loop, which means backlight intensity can vary with signal level.

Can the display be scaled to show engineering units instead of raw current?

Yes. The meter includes span and offset adjustments, allowing the display to be scaled to match the application. For example, it can be set so that 4 mA represents a low process value and 20 mA represents a higher process value, with the display showing the desired numeric range.

What type of display does it use?

This model uses a 3½-digit LCD display with 0.6-inch high digits for straightforward local indication. The CUB4LP40 version has a positive image transflective LCD with red backlighting.

Can the decimal point position be changed?

Yes. The decimal point position is selectable by DIP switch, allowing the display to be set for tenths, hundredths or thousandths. If required, it can also be configured with no decimal point shown.

What display range can be shown?

The indicator displays from -1999 to 1999. It also provides negative indication and overrange indication, which is useful when the scaled value goes beyond the configured display range.

Is this unit suitable for panel mounting?

Yes. It is built for panel mounting and fits a DIN standard cut-out of 68 mm by 33 mm. The front of the unit is designed for sealed installation when mounted correctly in an enclosed panel.

What environmental protection does the front panel offer?

When properly installed, the front bezel is rated NEMA 4X and IP65 for indoor use. This makes it suitable for applications where protection against dust and water ingress at the panel face is important.

Can it be used in hazardous areas?

Yes. According to the product documentation, it is suitable for use in Class I, Division 2 Groups A, B, C and D, Class II, Division 2 Groups F and G, and Class III, Division 2 locations, as well as non-hazardous areas, when installed in accordance with the relevant requirements.

How accurate is the indicator?

The published linearity is ±(0.1% + 1 digit) at 23°C and below 85% relative humidity. This makes it suitable for general process indication where a compact local display is needed.

How quickly does the display update?

The typical reading rate is 2.5 readings per second, with a response time of around 1.5 seconds to settle after a step change. This provides stable indication for many industrial process signals.

  • Local indication of 4-20 mA process signals on control panels and operator stations
  • Displaying loop-powered measurements such as pressure, temperature, flow, level and humidity in industrial systems
  • Showing analogue transmitter output in a clear digital format for quick at-a-glance monitoring
  • Panel mounting in process equipment where a compact digital panel meter is needed
  • Converting current loop signals into scaled engineering values for easier operator interpretation
  • Monitoring valve position, tank level or line conditions from remote field devices
  • Use in OEM machinery and skids that require a simple front-panel process display
  • Retrofitting existing panels with a loop-powered indicator to improve visibility of analogue signals
  • Installation in washdown or dusty indoor environments where a sealed front panel is beneficial
  • General automation applications requiring a red-backlit LCD meter for readable local process indication
