What type of device is this?

This is a SICK M4000 Standard multiple light beam protective device designed to monitor access points around industrial machinery. The M40S-025010ER0 is the transmitter element of the system.

How many light beams does the transmitter provide?

The transmitter provides two optically synchronised beams with 500 mm spacing between them.

What operating range does it offer?

Its configurable operating range is 0.5 to 70 metres. It supports a short range of 0.5 to 20 metres and a long range of 9 to 70 metres.

Does this unit require a separate receiver?

Yes. This model is the transmitter and must be paired with a compatible M4000 Standard receiver to create a complete protective system.

What is the response time?

The specified response time is 10 ms, enabling rapid detection when either of the two beams is interrupted.

What supply voltage is required?

The unit requires a nominal 24 V DC supply and operates within a permitted range of 19.2 to 28.8 V DC.

How much current does the device consume?

The specified current consumption is no more than 0.2 A.

What electrical connection does it use?

The system connection is an 8-pin male M12 connector. The permitted cable length is up to 15 metres, subject to the load, power supply and conductor cross-section.

What environmental protection rating does it have?

The enclosure is rated IP65 in accordance with EN 60529, providing protection against dust ingress and water jets.

What temperatures can it operate in?

The operating ambient temperature range is -30°C to +55°C. The specified storage temperature range is -30°C to +70°C.

What industrial protection classifications does it meet?

The device is classified as Type 4 under IEC 61496-1, SIL 3 under IEC 61508, Category 4 under EN ISO 13849 and Performance Level PL e under EN ISO 13849.
