Schneider Electric A9F04302 is an Acti 9 iC60N miniature circuit breaker designed for distribution and control panel applications where reliable protection of three-phase circuits is required. This 3-pole device is rated at 2 A with a C tripping curve and uses a thermal-magnetic trip unit to provide dependable protection against overloads and short-circuits across AC and DC networks. It is also suitable for isolation in accordance with relevant EN/IEC standards, supporting safe sectionalising during maintenance and commissioning.

Built for DIN rail mounting, the A9F04302 occupies 6 x 9 mm pitches (54 mm wide) and features a clear contact position indicator plus a local trip indication. It provides 6 kA rated short-circuit breaking capacity (Icn) at 400 V AC to EN/IEC 60898-1, with high performance breaking capacities up to 50 kA (Icu/Ics) depending on voltage per EN/IEC 60947-2. Practical installation is supported by double terminals (top or bottom) for rigid conductors up to 25 mm² and flexible conductors up to 16 mm², with an IP20 protection rating and an operating temperature range of -35 to +70 °C.

What does this miniature circuit breaker do?

It provides overcurrent protection for electrical distribution circuits by tripping on overloads (thermal element) and short-circuits (magnetic element), helping to protect cabling and connected loads.

How many poles does it have and what does that mean in practice?

It is a 3-pole device, designed to switch and protect three conductors together. This is commonly used for three-phase circuits where simultaneous disconnection is required.

What is the rated current?

The rated current is 2 A. In normal operation it is intended to carry up to 2 A continuously under the specified reference conditions.

What does a C trip curve mean?

A C curve breaker is intended for circuits with moderate inrush currents (for example, small motors, transformers, or groups of lamps). The magnetic (instantaneous) trip operates at approximately 8 × In (with tolerance), so for 2 A this is around 16 A for instantaneous tripping.

Is it suitable for AC, DC, or both?

It is specified for both AC and DC networks. Ensure the system voltage and breaking capacity requirements match your installation conditions.

What breaking capacity should I consider for typical installations?

For installations assessed under EN/IEC 60898-1 at 400 V AC, the rated short-circuit breaking capacity (Icn) is 6 kA. For applications assessed under EN/IEC 60947-2, higher breaking capacities are specified depending on voltage (for example, up to 50 kA at several AC voltage ranges). Selection should be based on the prospective fault current at the point of installation and the standard used for the panel.

Can it be used as an isolator?

Yes. It is stated as suitable for isolation in accordance with the relevant standards listed on the product documentation, meaning it can be used for disconnection/isolation functions when correctly installed.

What mounting format does it use?

It is designed for DIN rail mounting. The device width is 6 modules (9 mm pitch), which corresponds to 54 mm overall width.

What are the overall dimensions?

Typical overall dimensions are approximately 91 mm (height) × 54 mm (width) × 78.5 mm (depth). Allow extra clearance for wiring bend radius and upstream/downstream accessories.

What conductor sizes can be connected to the terminals?

It uses double terminals (top or bottom). Typical accepted sizes are 1 to 25 mm² for rigid conductors and 1 to 16 mm² for flexible conductors, depending on the conductor type and ferrule practice.

What wire stripping length and tightening torque are recommended?

A stripping length of 14 mm is specified, with a typical tightening torque of 2 N·m for top or bottom connections. Using the correct torque helps ensure a secure, low-resistance connection.

Does it provide a visual indication of contact position or tripping?

Yes. It includes a contact position indicator and local signalling with a trip indicator, helping distinguish between an intentional switch-off and a trip event.

What is the operating temperature range?

The specified ambient operating temperature range is -35 °C to +70 °C. Storage temperature is specified down to -40 °C and up to +85 °C.

What is the ingress protection rating?

The device is rated IP20, which is typical for components intended to be installed inside an enclosure that provides the required overall protection for the installation environment.

Can earth-leakage (RCD) protection be added?

Earth-leakage protection is described as using a separate block, meaning residual-current protection is achieved by pairing with an appropriate add-on device rather than being integrated into the breaker itself.

Which standards does it conform to?

It is specified as conforming to IEC/EN 60898-1 and IEC/EN 60947-2. In practice, this supports use in a broad range of distribution and panel-building contexts where those standards apply.

  • Overcurrent and short-circuit protection for low-current three-phase distribution circuits in panelboards and consumer units
  • Protecting three-phase control circuits feeding contactors, relays and auxiliary power supplies
  • Circuit protection for instrumentation and monitoring equipment on multi-phase systems where a 2 A rating is required
  • Safeguarding three-phase lighting and signalling circuits in commercial and industrial installations
  • Protection of small three-phase motor feeders with moderate inrush characteristics using a C-curve device
  • Branch protection within industrial automation cabinets for power to I/O racks, interface modules and field devices
  • Isolation and protection of dedicated three-pole sub-circuits in machine control panels and skid systems
  • Use in mixed AC/DC distribution arrangements where a three-pole miniature circuit-breaker is specified for the application limits
  • Segmentation of outgoing ways in modular DIN-rail assemblies to reduce nuisance trips and simplify fault finding
  • Protecting auxiliary three-phase circuits in building services panels such as ventilation dampers, actuators and controls
