Sick LUT8U-11301 is a compact luminescence sensor from the LUT8 range, built for dependable detection of fluorescent and luminescent marks in industrial automation applications. With a nominal sensing distance of 50 mm and an operating range of 20 mm to 70 mm, it is well suited to tasks such as registration mark detection in packaging, printing and converting processes where fast, consistent response is important.

This sensor uses a 375 nm UV LED light source and features a 5 mm x 15 mm light spot, manual sensitivity adjustment via rotary switch, and a bar graph display for visual indication of luminescence intensity. It offers both PNP and NPN switching outputs, an analogue output of 0 mA to 13 mA, and a maximum output current of 100 mA. Designed for industrial environments, the LUT8U-11301 has a robust zinc die-cast metal housing, IP67 protection, an M12 5-pin connector, and operates on a 12 to 30 V DC supply with a response time of 200 µs.

What does this sensor do?

This device is a luminescence sensor designed to detect fluorescent or UV-reactive marks and materials on industrial equipment. It uses a UV LED light source with a wavelength of 375 nm and evaluates the returned luminescent signal within a 450 nm to 750 nm receiving range.

What is the standard sensing distance?

In its standard configuration, this model offers a sensing distance of up to 50 mm, with a typical working range of 20 mm to 70 mm measured from the front edge of the lens.

What outputs are available?

The sensor provides both PNP and NPN switching outputs, as well as an analogue output of 0 mA to 13 mA. The maximum output current is 100 mA.

What supply voltage does it require?

It operates from 12 V DC to 30 V DC. Current consumption is below 100 mA without load, and the permitted ripple is less than 5 Vss.

How fast does the sensor respond?

This sensor is designed for fast detection tasks, with a switching frequency of 2.5 kHz and a response time of 200 microseconds.

How is the switching threshold adjusted?

Adjustment is carried out manually using the rotary selector on the housing. A yellow output indicator and a green bar graph help show switching status and luminescence intensity, making set-up more straightforward on the machine.

What type of electrical connection does it use?

It uses a 5-pin M12 male connector. The connector can be rotated by up to 90 degrees, which can help when routing cables in tighter installation spaces.

What are the pin assignments?

The pinout is: pin 1 brown for L+, pin 2 white for QNPN, pin 3 blue for M, pin 4 black for QPNP, and pin 5 grey for the analogue output QA.

What are the housing and protection features?

The housing is made from zinc diecast metal and the enclosure is rated IP67. The unit also includes reverse-polarity protection on the supply connections, short-circuit protection on output Q, and interference pulse suppression.

What are the operating temperature limits?

The ambient operating temperature range is -10 °C to +55 °C, while the storage temperature range is -25 °C to +75 °C.

What are the dimensions and weight?

The sensor measures 30.4 mm x 53 mm x 80 mm and weighs approximately 400 g. It includes an M5 threaded mounting hole with a depth of 5.5 mm.

Can the sensing distance be changed?

Yes. The LUT8U-11301 belongs to a range that supports interchangeable lenses, allowing different sensing distances depending on the optical accessory selected. Available options include lenses for 10 mm, 20 mm, 50 mm and 90 mm applications.

What kind of applications is this sensor commonly used for?

It is commonly used where fluorescent marks, labels, adhesives, coatings or registration marks need to be detected reliably. This makes it suitable for many packaging, printing, converting and automated inspection duties.

Are mating connectors and cables available for this sensor?

Yes. Common accessory options include straight and angled 5-pin M12 female connectors, as well as pre-assembled sensor/actuator cables in several lengths with flying leads.
