What does this AS-Interface module do?

It interfaces up to four discrete (on/off) field signals to an AS-Interface (AS-i) network, allowing sensors to be read by an AS-i master while keeping wiring decentralised near the machine.

How many inputs does it provide and what type are they?

It provides 4 digital inputs designed for 2‑wire or 3‑wire PNP sensors in line with EN/IEC 61131-2 Type 2 behaviour.

Which AS-Interface version and addressing method are used?

It is an AS-i V1 module using standard addressing, with up to 31 addresses on a network segment (subject to the master and network design).

What supply voltage does it require?

The AS-i line supply is 26.5 to 31.6 V DC. The module’s electronics are powered from the AS-i line.

How much current does the module consume from the AS-i line?

Current consumption is up to 45 mA from the AS-i line (not including any sensor supply current).

Can it provide power to connected sensors?

Yes. It provides sensor-side power in the 18 to 30 V range, with available sensor supply current up to 200 mA below 40°C (derating to 150 mA from 40°C to 70°C), with overload and short-circuit protection.

What connector types are used for field wiring?

Field connections are via 4 female M12 connectors for sensors. The AS-i line and auxiliary supply are connected using IDC-style (insulation displacement) connections.

Is it suitable for use in wet or dusty environments?

It is rated IP67 under typical installed conditions, offering robust sealing for washdown splashes and dust ingress (provided mating connectors and cabling are correctly assembled).

How is it mounted in a control cabinet or on a machine?

It is designed for clip-on mounting to a 35 mm symmetrical DIN rail. It can also be secured using M4 screws depending on the installation arrangement.

What local indications are available on the module?

It includes four yellow LEDs for input status, a green LED for AS-i power, a green LED for auxiliary power, and a red FAULT LED for diagnostic indication.

What does the FAULT indication typically mean?

A FAULT indication commonly relates to AS-i communication or addressing conditions (for example, missing network communication or a module not yet assigned a valid address), or it may indicate an overload condition affecting sensor supply on certain variants. Exact behaviour depends on the network state and wiring.

What is the operating temperature range?

Operating ambient temperature is -25°C to +70°C, with storage from -40°C to +85°C.

Does it include protection against wiring mistakes?

Yes. Reverse polarity protection is integrated on the AS-i supply, and the sensor supply is protected against overload and short-circuit conditions.

What AS-i profile is associated with this module?

It uses AS-i profile 00FF. If you need to match an existing installation, this profile can help confirm functional compatibility at the network level (for example, during replacement).

If communication is lost, what state do signals fall back to?

The defined fallback behaviour is OFF in the absence of communication. In practice, the network master and system design determine how loss of communication is handled overall.

Is this module appropriate as a replacement in an existing AS-i installation?

Often yes, provided the installation expects an AS-i V1, 4-input module with M12 sensor connections and profile 00FF. When cross-checking, match the wiring method (IDC), ingress protection needs, and sensor type (PNP) used on the machine. The specific unit is commonly referenced as ASI67FFP40A in documentation.

  • Connecting up to four discrete PNP sensors into an AS-Interface (AS-i) network for decentralised machine I/O
  • Collecting status signals from proximity sensors, photoelectric sensors, reed switches, and limit switches on conveyors and transfer lines
  • Monitoring cylinder position sensors and end-of-stroke switches in pneumatic or hydraulic stations
  • Capturing run/stop, part-present, and jam-detection inputs on packaging, filling, and labelling equipment
  • Bringing door/guard position indication and other general-purpose interlocks onto an AS-i segment for line monitoring
  • Creating compact field I/O points in space-constrained panels or machine frames using DIN-rail mounting and direct IDC cable connection
  • Reducing point-to-point cabling by aggregating multiple sensor inputs at the machine level and reporting them to the AS-i master
  • Adding additional input capacity during line extensions or retrofits where an IP67-rated module is preferred near the process
  • Using as an AS-i tap-off or end-of-line input node to pick up local signals at remote sections of a production line
  • Providing clear local indication of input states and module condition during commissioning and fault-finding on automated equipment
