SICK 1115762, model WLA16P-24862130A00, is a compact photoelectric retro-reflective sensor from the W16 range, designed for dependable object detection in industrial automation systems. Using a visible red PinPoint LED and autocollimation principle, it offers accurate sensing with a maximum range of up to 10 m when used with a suitable reflector, with best performance typically achieved up to 7 m. Its focused light spot and polarisation filter help deliver stable detection, including for challenging applications such as identifying objects wrapped in film.

This sensor features a robust rectangular housing with a 4-pin M12 male connector, PNP complementary outputs and IO-Link communication for straightforward integration into modern control architectures. Teach-in sensitivity adjustment, clear status indication LEDs and BluePilot alignment assistance make setup and operation efficient, while the compact form factor supports installation where space is limited. With a 10 V DC to 30 V DC supply range and enclosure ratings up to IP69, the 1115762 is well suited to demanding factory environments where reliability and consistent sensing performance are essential.

What type of device is this?

This is a compact photoelectric retro-reflective sensor designed for object detection in industrial automation. It works with a reflector and is part of the W16 small sensor format, making it suitable where space is limited.

How does this sensor detect objects?

The sensor emits a visible red light beam towards a reflector. When an object interrupts the return beam, the output changes state. Its autocollimation design and polarisation filter help it achieve reliable detection in retro-reflective applications.

What sensing range can I expect?

The maximum sensing range is up to 10 metres, depending on the reflector used. With the reference reflector PL80A, the recommended operating range for strong performance is 0 to 7 metres.

Does this sensor require a reflector?

Yes. This model is intended for retro-reflective operation, so it is used with a compatible reflector. The chosen reflector affects the achievable sensing distance and the operating reserve.

What light source does it use?

It uses a PinPoint LED with visible red light at 635 nm. The light spot is point-shaped, with a spot diameter of approximately 80 mm at a distance of 5 metres.

Is it suitable for detecting film-wrapped products?

Yes. This sensor is noted as suitable for detecting objects wrapped in film, which can be useful in packaging and conveying applications where wrapped items need to be identified consistently.

What supply voltage does it need?

The operating supply voltage is 10 to 30 V DC. Current consumption is up to 30 mA without load at 24 V DC.

What outputs are available?

It provides two complementary PNP digital outputs. In standard operation, pin 4 is used as the light-switching output and pin 2 as the dark-switching output, with additional configuration options available through IO-Link.

Does it support IO-Link communication?

Yes. The sensor supports IO-Link version 1.1 with COM2 communication at 38.4 kBaud. It also supports SIO mode, so it can be used as a conventional switching sensor where IO-Link is not being used.

What connector does it use?

This model uses a 4-pin M12 male connector. That connection style is widely used in factory automation and makes integration with standard sensor cables straightforward.

How fast is the sensor?

In standard switching mode, the response time is up to 500 µs and the switching frequency is up to 1,000 Hz. This makes it suitable for fast-moving detection tasks.

What are the housing dimensions?

The housing dimensions are 20 mm x 55.7 mm x 42 mm. The unit weighs approximately 50 g, so it is a compact and lightweight option for machine installations.

What environmental protection ratings does it have?

The sensor is rated IP66, IP67 and IP69, making it suitable for demanding industrial environments. Its operating temperature range is -40 °C to +60 °C, with storage down to -40 °C and up to +75 °C.

Is there an alignment indicator?

Yes. The sensor includes BluePilot indication to assist with alignment. When the blue LEDs are fully illuminated, the sensor is positioned for optimum alignment and the highest possible operating reserve.

Can the switching behaviour be adjusted?

Yes. In addition to the standard output behaviour, the unit supports adjustable functions through IO-Link, including logic options such as direct, AND, OR, window and hysteresis, plus timer-based switching modes. This gives the 1115762 added flexibility in more tailored installations.
