What type of circuit breaker is this?

The BGA36080 is a PowerPact B thermal-magnetic circuit breaker designed for electrical distribution. It has three poles, an 80 A rated current and an I-Line mounting arrangement.

How does the thermal-magnetic trip mechanism work?

The thermal element provides protection against sustained overloads, while the magnetic element responds to short-circuit currents. This combination provides two forms of overcurrent protection within the same breaker.

What are the current and continuous-load ratings?

The breaker has a rated current of 80 A and an 80% continuous current rating. These are separate specifications and should both be considered when selecting the breaker for a distribution circuit.

What AC voltage and frequency ratings does it have?

The breaker measures 137 mm high, 81 mm wide and 89 mm deep, with a mounting height of 114 mm. Its net weight is approximately 1.315 kg. Space for conductors and any fitted accessories should also be considered.

Which conductor sizes can the load terminals accept?

The load terminals accommodate copper or aluminium conductors from AWG 14 to AWG 2/0. Terminal acceptance does not establish the correct conductor size for an 80 A circuit; conductor selection must also account for the load and applicable installation requirements.

Which accessory provisions are included?

The breaker provides one slot for an OF auxiliary switch, one for an MN undervoltage release or MX shunt release, and one for an SD alarm switch. These provisions do not mean the accessories are fitted or included with every unit.

What operating temperature and altitude limits are specified?

The stated operating temperature range is -25°C to +70°C, and the storage temperature range is -50°C to +85°C. The datasheet specifies operation below 2,000 m without altitude derating and up to 5,000 m with derating.

What protection ratings apply to the front cover?

The front cover is rated IP40 under IEC 60529 and IK07 under IEC 62262. IP40 does not provide protection against water, so the installation enclosure must be selected to suit the surrounding conditions.

Is the breaker suitable for isolation?

The BGA36080 is identified as suitable for isolation under IEC 60947-2. It has a toggle operating mechanism and is classified as utilisation category A.
