Phoenix Contact 3214321 is a black, three-level fuse terminal block designed for mounting on NS 35 DIN rails. It combines screw connections, a protective earth foot and a hinged holder for G-type 5 x 20 mm cartridge fuses. An integrated LED fault indicator operates across 12–30 V AC/DC, making the terminal suitable for 24 V control and monitoring circuits.

The terminal accepts rigid or flexible copper conductors from 0.14 to 6 mm² and has a rated cross-section of 4 mm². Its compact 6.2 mm width helps conserve panel space, while the PA housing provides a UL 94 V0 flammability rating. Part 3214321 is also approved for specified installations in potentially explosive environments and carries the Ex ec IIC Gc marking.

What type of component is this?

It is a three-level fuse modular terminal block with screw connections, a protective earth foot and an integrated LED fault indicator. It is designed for mounting on a DIN rail in industrial electrical panels and enclosures.

What size of fuse does the terminal block accept?

The terminal block accepts 5 x 20 mm G-type cartridge fuse-links. Sand-filled fuse-links conforming to IEC 60127 should be selected to suit the electrical application.

What voltage range is suitable for the LED indicator?

The integrated LED indicator is intended for operating voltages from 12 V AC/DC to 30 V AC/DC. Its specified current range is 0.31 mA to 0.95 mA.

What are the rated current values for the different levels?

The second level is rated at 20 A with a 4 mm² conductor, while the fused third level is rated at 6.3 A with a 4 mm² conductor. The actual fused-circuit current is determined by the installed fuse-link.

What are the rated voltage values for the terminal levels?

Under the specified Ex-rated data, the second level has a rated voltage of 500 V and the third level has a rated voltage of 250 V. The LED circuit itself is designed for 12 V AC/DC to 30 V AC/DC.

Which conductor sizes can be connected?

Rigid and flexible copper conductors from 0.14 mm² to 6 mm² can be connected, corresponding to AWG 26 to AWG 10. Flexible conductors fitted with ferrules without plastic sleeves may range from 0.14 mm² to 4 mm².

What preparation is required before connecting a conductor?

The conductor should be stripped to a length of 9 mm and inserted fully into the connection point. The terminal screw should then be tightened to between 0.6 Nm and 0.8 Nm.

How is the component mounted?

The terminal block clips onto an NS 35/7.5 or NS 35/15 DIN rail. A row of terminals should be secured using suitable end clamps, and the open side should be fitted with the appropriate cover or separating plate where required.

Can this terminal block be used in potentially explosive atmospheres?

Yes. It carries the marking II 3 G Ex ec IIC Gc and has ATEX, IECEx and UKEX certifications. It must be installed in a suitable enclosure that meets the applicable requirements for the intended gas or dust environment.

What enclosure rating is required for Ex applications?

The terminal block has been assessed for installation in an enclosure with a minimum rating of IP54. The final enclosure must also provide the necessary clearances, creepage distances and environmental protection for the application.

What is the permitted operating temperature range?

The specified Ex operating temperature range is -60°C to +130°C. Additional approval conditions may impose a lower maximum ambient operating temperature, so the requirements applicable to the final installation should be observed.

How is a fuse-link installed or replaced?

With the circuit isolated, swing out the fuse lever, open the side panel, insert or replace the 5 x 20 mm cartridge fuse-link, close the side panel and swing the lever back until it clicks into position.

Does a blown fuse make the downstream circuit voltage-free?

No. A defective fuse does not necessarily leave the downstream circuit voltage-free because of the indicator arrangement. The circuit must be properly isolated and verified before any work is undertaken.

What is the purpose of the protective earth foot?

The protective earth foot provides an electrical connection to the conductive DIN rail. This allows the terminal block to combine fused and feed-through connections with a dedicated PE level in a compact assembly.

What are the component's physical dimensions?

The terminal block is approximately 6.2 mm wide and 92.7 mm long. Its installed height is approximately 88.9 mm on an NS 35/7.5 rail or 96.4 mm on an NS 35/15 rail.

What material is used for the insulating body?

The black insulating body is made from polyamide and has a UL 94 V-0 flammability classification. The insulating material is assigned to material group I.

Which accessories are commonly used with this terminal block?

Typical accessories include CLIPFIX 35 or CLIPFIX 35-5 end clamps, an SZS 0.6 x 3.5 screwdriver, 6.2 mm-pitch plug-in bridges, terminal markers and compatible 4 mm test adapters.

What is the appropriate commodity classification?

This fuse terminal block falls within commodity heading 853690, covering electrical apparatus used to make connections in electrical circuits.
