What does this sensor do in an automation system?

Mount the emitter and receiver so the centres of their lenses form a straight line, then power the unit and adjust position until the indicator behaviour clearly changes when an opaque object is moved in and out of the beam. Finally, secure both sides in the centre of the stable detection range.

What are the aperture (reticle) stickers used for?

The included aperture stickers narrow the effective beam. They are intended for detecting very small sensing objects and for reducing mutual interference when multiple sensors are installed close together. For best results, apply matching stickers to both the emitter and receiver sensing faces.

When should I choose a narrower slit versus a wider slit sticker?

Use a narrower slit when the target is small (for example, a thin edge or small diameter part) or when you need to minimise the chance of neighbouring sensors influencing each other. Use a wider slit when you want a more tolerant alignment window and the target size allows it.

What should I consider if I need to extend the wiring?

Voltage drop and output level at the far end can change as cable impedance increases. If you extend the wiring, use a thicker conductor (greater than AWG 22) and keep the extension length within the stated limits for the product, allowing for the original attached cable.

What is the maximum overall cable length I can use?

The standard installed cable length is intended to be within 10 m overall (including the attached cable). If extending further, the wiring can be extended with appropriate conductor size up to 100 m, but you must account for voltage fluctuation and the effect on the output level at the cable end.

How should it be mounted, and what tightening torque is recommended?

Mount the sensor components securely on a flat surface and tighten the mounting screws within the recommended maximum torque of 0.54 N·m to avoid damaging the housing or shifting alignment.

What cable lengths are supplied between the sensor heads and the amplifier assembly?

For this series, versions are available with different lead lengths between the sensing heads and the in-line amplifier assembly. For example, EE-SPW321 commonly uses a 500 mm lead, while the “-A” variant uses a 1,000 mm lead.

Can multiple units be installed close together without interference?

Yes, but spacing and optical shielding become important. Using the supplied aperture stickers is a practical method to reduce mutual interference in close installations, and careful alignment helps ensure each receiver primarily sees its paired emitter.
