Sick 1005822, also known as NT6-03022, is an industrial contrast sensor from the NT6 range designed for reliable detection of contrast differences in automated machinery and production processes. It uses visible LED light and is suited to applications where accurate recognition of marks, colour transitions or light/dark changes is required.

The sensor features a compact zinc die-cast housing measuring 80 mm x 30.4 mm x 64 mm, with selectable light emission from the long or short side of the housing. It offers a sensing distance of up to 9 mm with a ±2 mm tolerance, a light spot size of 1.5 mm x 5 mm with green light, and a wavelength of 560 nm. Adjustment is carried out via potentiometer, allowing practical setup of the switching threshold and operating mode.

Electrical characteristics include a 10 V DC to 30 V DC supply range, current consumption below 80 mA without load, a 10 kHz switching frequency and a response time greater than 50 µs. The unit provides a switching output, an analogue output from 0.15 V to 6 V, and a maximum output current of 200 mA. Built-in protective functions include reverse polarity protection for the supply connections, short-circuit protection for output Q and interference pulse suppression.

With a 2 m cable connection, IP67 enclosure rating and operating temperature range of 0 °C to +50 °C, the Sick NT6-03022 is well suited for use in demanding industrial environments such as packaging, printing, labelling, material handling and process automation systems.

What type of sensor is this component?

This component is a SICK NT6 contrast sensor designed to detect differences in contrast between a target mark and its background in industrial automation applications.

What is a contrast sensor typically used for?

A contrast sensor is commonly used to identify printed marks, labels, registration marks, colour changes or light-dark transitions on moving materials such as packaging, paper, film or labels.

What sensing distance does this sensor provide?

The sensor has a sensing distance of up to 9 mm, with a sensing distance tolerance of ±2 mm.

What supply voltage is required?

The unit operates from a 10 V DC to 30 V DC supply, making it suitable for many standard industrial control systems.

What is the switching frequency of this sensor?

The switching frequency is 10 kHz, based on a light/dark ratio of 1:1.

What response time does the sensor have?

The response time is greater than 50 µs, allowing the sensor to react quickly to contrast changes in fast-moving applications.

What type of light source does it use?

The sensor uses an LED light source. The datasheet references visible red light and green light characteristics, with a wavelength of 560 nm stated for the green light.

What is the light spot size?

The light spot size is 1.5 mm x 5 mm with green light, and 1.5 mm x 4 mm with red light.

How is the sensor adjusted?

Adjustment is carried out using a potentiometer. The device includes adjusters for the switching threshold and operating modes.

What output signals are available?

The sensor provides a switching output and an analogue output. The analogue output range is 0.15 V to 6 V.

What is the maximum output current?

The maximum output current is 200 mA.

What cable connection does the sensor use?

The NT6-03022 version is supplied with a 2 m cable connection.

What is the connection colour coding?

The connection diagram identifies red as L+, grey as Q, blue as M, black as PE, green as NC and yellow as QA.

What is the enclosure rating?

The sensor has an IP67 enclosure rating, meaning it is designed to resist dust ingress and temporary immersion conditions as defined by the rating.

What material is the housing made from?

The housing is made from zinc diecast, providing a robust body for industrial environments.

What are the main dimensions?

The sensor measures 80 mm wide, 30.4 mm high and 64 mm deep.

What ambient operating temperature range is specified?

The specified ambient operating temperature range is 0 °C to +50 °C.

What storage temperature range is specified?

The specified storage temperature range is -25 °C to +75 °C.

Does the sensor include electrical protection features?

Yes. The sensor includes reverse polarity protection for UV connections, short-circuit protection for output Q and interference pulse suppression.

Which classification codes apply to this sensor?

The sensor is classified under ECLASS 27270906, ETIM EC001820 and UNSPSC 39121528.
