What does this sensor do?

This unit is a diffuse photoelectric proximity sensor designed to detect the presence of an object by emitting infrared light and evaluating the reflected signal. It is well suited to general object detection tasks where non-contact sensing is preferred.

What sensing range can I expect in normal use?

The stated sensing distance is 10 mm to 700 mm, with a typical maximum reach up to 800 mm under favourable conditions. Actual performance depends on the target’s reflectivity, size, position and surface finish.

Does the target colour or surface affect detection distance?

Yes. Highly reflective or light-coloured targets are usually detected at longer distances than dark or low-reflectivity surfaces. The published range is based on a 90% remission target, so darker objects may be detected at a shorter distance.

Is the sensing distance adjustable?

Yes. The sensor includes a 270° potentiometer for setting the switching distance, allowing the detection point to be tuned for the application.

What power supply does it require?

It operates from 10 V DC to 30 V DC. Current consumption is 30 mA without load.

What output type does it have?

It has a PNP switching output with a maximum output current of 100 mA. This makes it suitable for many standard DC control circuits.

Can it be set for light-on or dark-on operation?

Yes. The switching mode can be selected via the L/D control wire. With the control line left open, the device operates in dark-on mode.

How is the sensor wired?

The 4-pin M12 connection is arranged as follows: pin 1 brown = L+, pin 2 white = L/D control, pin 3 blue = M, and pin 4 black = Q output.

What connector does it use?

This version uses a 4-pin M12 connector. If needed, VTE18-4P8240 can be paired with suitable straight M12 connection leads or mating connectors for installation.

The housing is cylindrical with an M18 x 1 thread. Its overall dimensions are approximately 18 mm x 18 mm x 78 mm.

The housing is made from nickel-plated brass, while the optical front is PMMA plastic. This gives the sensor a durable metal body with a compact threaded format for straightforward mounting.

It has an IP67 protection rating, which makes it appropriate for use in environments where dust ingress and temporary exposure to water are considerations.

What operating temperature range does it cover?

The specified ambient operating temperature range is -25 °C to +70 °C.

How fast does it switch?

The response time is 2 ms or less, and the switching frequency is 250 Hz. This makes it suitable for many routine detection tasks on moving equipment.

Does it include a status indicator?

Yes. The sensor features a yellow LED that acts as a reception or signal indicator, helping with set-up and visual status checking during operation.
