Turck 1634822 (NI30U-EM30WD-AP6X-H1141) is a heavy-duty inductive proximity sensor designed for demanding industrial environments where robust sealing and corrosion resistance are essential. This non-flush M30 x 1.5 threaded sensor offers a 30 mm rated switching distance with a factor 1 response across all common metals, enabling consistent detection even when target materials vary. It operates on 10–30 VDC with a 3-wire PNP, normally open output and provides fast switching up to 1 kHz for reliable presence detection in automated machinery.

Built with a stainless steel housing (1.4404 / AISI 316L) and an LCP active face, the sensor is engineered for long-term durability in harsh conditions, including high moisture and high-pressure washdown areas. With IP68 and IP69K protection, excellent resistance to magnetic fields, and a wide ambient temperature range of -40 to +100 °C, it is well suited to high-uptime applications requiring dependable, repeatable sensing. Connection is via an M12 x 1 male connector, and a yellow LED indicates switching status for straightforward commissioning and diagnostics.

What type of sensor is this and what does it detect?

It is an inductive proximity sensor designed to detect metallic targets without physical contact. It uses Turck uprox®+ technology with a “factor 1” response, meaning the switching distance remains consistent across common metals (for example steel, stainless steel, aluminium and brass).

What is the rated switching distance and what usable switching distance should I allow in an application?

The rated switching distance (Sn) is 30 mm. The secured operating distance is specified as up to 0.81 × Sn, so you should allow approximately ``0.81 × 30 mm = 24.3 mm`` for robust detection in typical conditions.

Is it flush-mountable or non-flush mountable?

It is specified for non-flush mounting. If it is installed in a way that approaches flush conditions, you should follow the manufacturer’s non-flush spacing guidance to avoid interaction with surrounding metal and reduced sensing performance.

What output type does the sensor provide?

It provides a DC 3-wire, normally open (NO) PNP switching output. This is commonly used to switch a load or provide a PLC input signal when a metal target is detected.

What supply voltage range does it require?

The operating voltage range is 10…30 VDC.

What is the maximum output current the sensor can switch?

The DC rated operational current is up to 200 mA.

How fast can it switch (switching frequency)?

The switching frequency is specified as up to 1 kHz, making it suitable for many fast detection and counting tasks where an inductive sensor is appropriate.

What environmental protection rating does it have?

It is rated IP68 and IP69K, supporting use in harsh, high-moisture environments where robust sealing is required.

What temperature range can it operate in?

The ambient temperature range is -40 to +100 °C.

What mechanical format and materials are used for the housing and sensing face?

It has an M30 × 1.5 threaded barrel design with a 62 mm body length. The housing material is stainless steel 1.4404 (AISI 316L), and the active face is LCP (liquid crystal polymer).

What connector does it use for electrical connection?

It uses an M12 × 1 male connector on the sensor body. The device is a 3-wire design, so it is typically paired with a compatible 3-pin M12 female cordset.

Are there any special mounting notes to be aware of for non-flush installation?

For non-flush uprox®+ threaded-barrel sensors, Turck notes that the sensor can be screwed to the upper edge of the barrel, and in that mounting position it operates safely with a 20% reduced switching distance. For aperture-plate installation, a spacing of X = 140 mm is specified. Observing recommended clearances helps maintain stable switching and reduce mutual interference.

  • Non-flush metal presence detection on stainless steel conveyor frames and machine guards in food and beverage production lines
  • Position feedback for pneumatic cylinder end-stops and mechanical actuators in washdown-rated packaging equipment
  • Detection of stainless steel tooling, carriers, and pallets on automated handling and transfer systems
  • Monitoring of rotating metal components such as shafts, couplings, and indexing wheels for machine sequencing
  • End-of-travel and home-position sensing on fillers, cappers, labellers, and cartoners operating in harsh environments
  • Reliable detection of mixed metal targets (factor 1 sensing) across changeovers where target material varies
  • High-temperature proximity sensing near process equipment where elevated ambient temperatures are common
  • General-purpose metal target sensing in IP68/IP69K-rated production zones requiring robust environmental protection
