The Schneider A9F94250 is a two-pole miniature circuit breaker from the Acti9 iC60L range, designed for circuit protection in electrical distribution systems. Rated at 50 A, it combines a C-curve tripping characteristic with thermal-magnetic protection against overloads and short circuits. Both poles are protected, and the device is suitable for AC and DC networks within its specified ratings.

Its rated ultimate short-circuit breaking capacity is 15 kA at 380–415 V AC and 30 kA at 220–240 V AC, in accordance with EN/IEC 60947-2. A toggle operating mechanism, contact position indicator and local trip indication provide clear visibility of the breaker’s status.

Designed for DIN rail mounting, the A9F94250 measures 85 mm high, 36 mm wide and 78.5 mm deep. Top or bottom terminal connections accommodate rigid conductors up to 35 mm² and flexible conductors up to 25 mm², supporting installation in distribution boards and control panels.

What type of circuit breaker is this?

The A9F94250 is an Acti9 iC60L miniature circuit breaker with two protected poles, a 50 A rated current and a C-curve tripping characteristic. Its thermal-magnetic trip mechanism provides protection against overloads and short circuits in electrical distribution circuits.

What does the C-curve tripping characteristic mean?

The C curve defines the circuit breaker's response to short-duration overcurrents. The datasheet specifies a magnetic tripping limit of eight times the rated current, with a tolerance of ±20%. Suitability depends on the circuit's starting currents and protection requirements.

Does this circuit breaker protect both poles?

Yes. This is a two-pole circuit breaker with protection on both poles, rather than a single protected pole paired with an unprotected neutral.

Can this circuit breaker be used on AC and DC networks?

Yes. The A9F94250 is specified for both AC and DC networks. Its breaking capacity varies with the network voltage and current type, so the applicable rating must be checked against the intended circuit.

What is the short-circuit breaking capacity?

The rated ultimate short-circuit breaking capacity, Icu, is 30 kA at 220–240 V AC, 15 kA at 380–415 V AC and 10 kA at 440 V AC, at 50/60 Hz. For DC applications, the specified Icu is 20 kA at up to 125 V DC. These ratings are stated in accordance with EN/IEC 60947-2.

How is the circuit breaker mounted?

The circuit breaker mounts on a DIN rail. It is compatible with comb busbars and distribution blocks at either the top or bottom, allowing flexibility when arranging a distribution assembly.

What are the dimensions and weight?

The circuit breaker measures 85 mm high, 36 mm wide and 78.5 mm deep. It occupies four 9 mm pitches and has a net weight of 0.25 kg.

What conductor sizes can the terminals accommodate?

The top and bottom terminals accept rigid conductors from 1 to 35 mm² and flexible conductors from 1 to 25 mm². The specified wire stripping length is 14 mm, and the terminal tightening torque is 3.5 N·m.

Does this circuit breaker include earth-leakage protection?

No. The circuit breaker provides thermal-magnetic overcurrent protection. Earth-leakage protection requires a separate compatible block; it is not built into this device.

What indication is provided on the circuit breaker?

The device has a contact position indicator and a local trip indicator. A toggle provides manual operation.

What environmental operating limits are specified?

The specified ambient operating temperature range is −35°C to +70°C, and the storage temperature range is −40°C to +85°C. The stated operating altitude range is 0–2,000 metres, and the degree of protection is IP20.

Which standards are listed for this circuit breaker?

The A9F94250 is specified to IEC 60947-2 and EN 60947-2. The datasheet also states suitability for isolation under these standards.

What are the mechanical and electrical durability ratings?

The stated mechanical durability is 20,000 operating cycles, while the electrical durability is 10,000 operating cycles. These are durability ratings rather than a prediction of operating life in a particular installation.

  • Protecting 50 A distribution circuits against overloads and short circuits in industrial and commercial installations.
  • Providing two-pole circuit protection in electrical distribution boards and machinery control panels.
  • Protecting circuits supplying motors and other equipment with moderate start-up currents, where a C-curve characteristic is suitable.
  • Providing circuit isolation for maintenance within suitably designed electrical installations.
  • Protecting compatible AC and DC circuits within the device’s specified voltage and breaking-capacity limits.
  • Supporting compact DIN-rail installations where panel space is limited.
